Flood Warnings and Advisories
Flood Watch – Coldwater River
ISSUED: November 23, 2017 12:30 PM
The River Forecast Centre is issuing a Flood Watch for:
- Coldwater River at Merritt
Rain and snowmelt over the past two days has led to high streamflow conditions throughout the region. Flows have been rising rapidly in response to this runoff. The Water Survey of Canada gauge Coldwater River near Brookmere (08LG048) is near peak levels at approximately 100 m3/s (5-year to 10-year flow). Flows are rising at the Coldwater River at Merritt and are currently at 55 m3/s. Flows through Merritt are expected to continue to rise through Thursday, with peak levels later in the day forecasted to be in the 120m3/s range, or a 10-year return period flow.
The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and update this advisory as conditions warrant.
A High Streamflow Advisory means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but that no major flooding is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
A Flood Watch means that river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull. Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur.
A Flood Warning means that river levels have exceeded bankfull or will exceed bankfull imminently, and that flooding of areas adjacent to the rivers affected will result.
