High Streamflow Advisory – Cariboo
Updated: 11:40 AM April 16, 2021
The River Forecast Centre is maintaining the High Streamflow Advisory for:
- Cariboo Region, including the San Jose River, Baker Creek, Nazko River, West Road River and tributaries around Williams Lake, Quesnel and Prince George
A high-pressure ridge has set up across British Columbia and the maximum temperatures in the above region have reached 21 degree Celsius yesterday (April 15, 2021), even though the minimum temperatures did not rise as much as expected. The streamflows in these rivers have observed responses to the hot spell, which has produced significant amounts of snowmelt. The current hydrologic modeling indicates that the river levels in this region continue to rise on the weekend into early next week and are expected to peak next Tuesday. The peaks vary from 5- to 50-year return periods. Please refer to the page of forecast for details.
The public is advised to stay clear of the fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks during the high-streamflow period.
The River Forecast Centre continues to monitor the conditions and provides updates as conditions warrant.
